For those who have been following my posts on our Facebook page, you'll know of my neighbour's 3 year old dog who now has kidney problems because of a vitamin D overdose. The source of the vitamin D was dog food that was recalled but the owner was not aware. Please share this link http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/ and register for their recall alerts. I think you'll agree that just one dog suffering from the affects of eatting recalled food is too many.
One of the things I didn't realize was that even with a puppy, there are high and low value treats. Of course, dehydrated liver remains the highest value for all the pooches. I've also made salmon patties for them ... this seems to be the next highest value reward. I like the fact that they are quick and easy to make and the dogs practically do back flips when they get them. I actually got this recipe many years ago from one of the trainers at the very first dog camp I attended. I've made them many times over the years and they really have staying power - not like some treats where the dogs tire of them after a bit. If you have any great recipes that you'd like to share, please email them to me. Who knows maybe there's a Camp Doggin' It recipe book in the future. In the meantime, if you want my salmon treat recipe, drop me a line and I'll send it your way.
Until next ime, keep safe, warm and dry - the snow is starting to fly here!!
